VP Kalla to Witness LAPAN Satellite Lift-Off

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to witness the launching of LAPAN-A3/LAPAN-IPB satellite at the Aviation Technology Center National Institute of Aeronautics and Space, Rumpin, Bogor Disctrict, West Java, on Wednesday.
The satellite weighing 115kg will be launched from Sriharikota, India, on the same day.
It is expected to help monitor the natural conditions in Indonesia with a high level of biodiversity.
The third generation LAPAN satellite will have a mission to carry an experimental remote sensing to monitor food resources and able to identify land cover and use as well as environmental monitoring.
The remote sensing load from the satellite is in form of four bands of multispectral imager with 18m resolution with a wide swath of 100km.
The construction of the satellite is carried out in collaboration between LAPAN and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB).
In addition to monitoring crops, the satelllite can be used to monitor maritime sector.
LAPAN also contribute in developing research and development products for the management of natural resources and environment.
To achieve the goal, LAPAN will be declaring Development of Aeronautics and Space Science and Technology-based Maritime Monitoring System that functions on monitoring natural resources and the environment.
LAPAN’s four flagship products include Maritime Payment System (SEMAR), AIS, National Earth Monitoring System, and Maritime Surveillance System (MSS).
In the maritime sector, LAPAN will also provide satellite data information to observe ship movement shown on the image cluster.
LAPAN can also aid the Agriculture Ministry in fertilizer distribution management and harvest forecast nationally.
