LAPAN-Pushidrosal Cooperation to Advance Indonesian Maritime

Thursday (31/8), there was a signing ceremony of Cooperation Agreement between LAPAN with Hydrographic and Oceanographic Center of Indonesia Navy (Pusat Hidrologi dan Oseanografi TNI Angkatan Laut, Pushidrosal). The signing ceremony was in the series of International Seminar of World Hydrographic Day 2017. The event was held by Pushidrosal and was themed "Mapping Our Seas, Oceans, and Waterways: More Important Than Ever".
In the event held at Mercure Hotel Convention Center, Ancol, North Jakarta, Head of Pushidrosal, Laksda TNI Harjo Susmoro welcomed the presence of invited guests. They are the Chief of Staff of Indonesia Navy (Kepala Staff Angkatan Laut Indonesia, KASAL), Admiral TNI Ade Supandi, The Prime Secretary of LAPAN, IL Arisdiyo, Head of BIG, Hasanuddin Z. Abidin, Councilor on the Ocean Development MEXT, Japan, Shin Tani, Head of Partnership and Engagement (Asia Pacific) of the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, Jammie McMichael-Phillips, as well as officials from other institutions.
The event continued with a keynote speech by KASAL. In his speech, Admiral Ade Supandi stated that the mapping of the sea, rivers, and waters of Indonesia is very important to advance the maritime of Indonesia. "Eighty percent of shipments are made by sea. For that, the mapping of the sea is needed to provide better benefits," he said.
He also added that since childhood, the Indonesian people have always been taught that Indonesia's natural resources are abundant. But the matter that must be considered is the management of natural resources that still haven’t meet expectations. Compared to Japan with 30% of marine practitioners, Indonesia has only about 2.3 million marine practitioners, which means only 1% of its population.
practitioners can be increased up to 5-10% in the next 10 years.
The signing of LAPAN-Pushidrosal Cooperation Agreement was conducted by the Prime Secretary of LAPAN, IL Arisdiyo and Kapushidrosal. Some points of cooperation that will be carried out between LAPAN and Pushidrosal are human resource capacity improvement in the field of hydro-oceanography, utilizing hydro-oceanographic data according to the scope of needs and utilization of remote sensing technology, bathymetry product data for the interest of application in the field of remote sensing, and dissemination of cooperation results.
