LAPAN-North Nias Cooperation: Research and Development Results to Answer National Demand

As a government institution in the field of aeronautics and space, LAPAN must produce research and development products that are useful for the people of Indonesia. The utilization of aeronautics and space science and technology can be utilized by local governments from Sabang to Merauke, and from Miangas to Rote.
This was conveyed by The Prime Secretary of LAPAN, Erna Sri Adiningsih, in her opening speech of the cooperation signing between LAPAN and North Nias Regency. The manuscript was signed by The Deputy Chairman for Remote Sensing Affair, Orbita Roswintiarti, and North Nias Regent, M. Ingati Nazara at LAPAN Headquarter, on Wednesday (4/7).
Erna said that the signing of the draft is a first step for LAPAN and North Nias Government to utilize aeronautics and space research, particularly remote sensing.
North Nias Regent also explained that Nias Island has the potential in tourism and fishery sector. "President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, while visiting Nias said he hoped that the sectors will be developed. In order to do so, one that should be conducted is to cooperate with LAPAN to maximize the potential and results," said Ingati.
In the signing ceremony, The Deputy Chairman for Remote Sensing Affair gave the exposure on remote sensing and the organizational structure of LAPAN. She also explained that LAPAN provides technical guidance facilities, acquisition system, Provincial Earth Monitoring System, satellite imagery data processing and management, data catalogue, Information System for Disaster Mitigation, and Natural Resource and Environment Information System. Orbita hoped the cooperation between both parties can strengthen each other's research, especially in the field of remote sensing.
