TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan) stated that the total lunar eclipse set to take place on Saturday, July 28, will have an extended duration up to 3 hours and 55 minutes while the moon itself will appear reddish for 1 hour and 43 minutes.
This astronomical event can be witnessed in almost every location across Indonesia, given that the skies would be completely clear during the event.
Researcher of Lapan Space Science Center, Rhorom Priyatikno, revealed another reason why the upcoming lunar eclipse should not be missed. He said that in July 27-July 28, the moon will appear as if it is hanging on the night sky with Mars and Saturn by its side.
“It would be incredibly beautiful to take a picture of the moment the objects are together. There will also be a meteor rain that coming from the Aquarius constellation, which will not be too far from the moon [during the lunar event],” said Rhorom on Tuesday, July 24.
Furthermore, Rhorom said that the duration of the lunar eclipse will be the second longest event after the lunar eclipse in July 16, 2000, which at the time the entire sequence lasted for 3 hours and 56 minutes with its total lunar eclipse lasting for 1 hour and 43 minutes.
He explained that the total lunar eclipse, which can be considered as a mini blood moon, will commence in Friday night of July 27 that will last from 01:24 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) up to 05:19 WIB the following day of Saturday, July 28.
